Landrace

Long-Bodied pigs with "down" ears are the mark of Landrace breeding, and these characteristics also mark one of the most prolific breeds of hogs known. Landrace-blood in sow herds results in big litters, and bigger pigs, and a high overall percentage of "raised" pigs. In the last three years all the Landrace litters recorded have averaged 10.7 "live" pigs farrowed.

Landrace Boars have long been noted for their aggressiveness and ability to settle a large percentage of sows on first service. They will also sire large thrifty pigs with white color being predominate in their offspring.

Landrace are a popular breed around the world and have been most successful in intensive confinement breeding and farrowing units. This is due mainly to the extreme soundness and the high percentage of pigs marketed from the large Landrace litters.
